Let’s hope that Little Daimyo does not decide to commit sippuko in the morning.

An 18" centerpiece straight out of "The Great Gatsby." "KYOTO IMPERIAL"

An 18" diameter centerpiece upholstered in a fabric incorporating many brightly colored traditional Japanese motifs. An 18" diameter base holds a vintage woven Mexican basket, ideal for serving chips or tortillas, and includes a pair of vintage purple glass candlesticks and 11 color-coordinated "tipsy" stemmed glasses perfect for margaritas. But, the star of the ensemble is the pair of tall wedgies...covered in colorful woven Mexican fabric. Salud!!

"TEMARI"
$200
Temari (Japanese woven thread handballs) were brought from China to Japan in the 7th century. They were first used as children's toys made by mothers from fragments torn from their old kimonos. More recently, they have been used as cherished gifts given to sons when they marry. Not unexpectedly, the craft of making temari by hand is slowly vanishing as the weaving of the thread designs is enormously difficult and time-consuming.
This unique piece consists of an 18" diameter base upholstered in Japanese fabric, featuring temari, and nailed in place with traditional-style tacks identical to those on the wooden geta. The getas themselves are lined with insoles incorporating temari in their design. Two genuine old temari rest on the base, along with three hand-painted "half-temari" candlesticks.

"VAN GOGH IN ARLES"
$220
The 18" diameter base of this centerpiece is covered with a fabric after Van Gogh's famous painting Cafe Terrace at Night. Beside a cabaret table set with wine, bread, and cheese, a gentleman's top hat and cane rest against one of the chairs. Nearby, un chat and un chien wait for leftovers. But, the star of this show is the pair of genuine antique can-can boots (complete with French heels) ready to do their stuff...garnee with either a black or white-and-pink garter belt, depending on your mood. The piece includes a porcelain plaque painted with French restaurant motifs (chef, garcon, Art Nouveau street lamp, etc.) on which you can write (and later erase) your menu du jour. OOH la la! Bon Appetit!

"SPRINGTIME IN TAKAYAMA"
$220
An 18" diameter base painted in silver and orange, orange being an auspicious color in Japanese culture. On it sits a delightful pair of little girl's wedge slippers--also in orange--and an Art Deco orange vase featuring the traditional subjects of cranes and lotus. The branches in the vase are studded with cotton balls made to resemble the cherry blossoms of spring that cannot withstand the chilly Japanese Alpine climes. A miniature handmade screen shows three little Japanese maidens enjoying playing among real cherry blossoms.

"RHAPSODY IN BLUE"
$200
Two (12" diameter) satiny blue and bejeweled circular bases are held aloft over New York Harbor by blue and chrome Art Deco-style feet. The piece includes a set of 6 blue glass-and-chrome small goblets, which are the inverse of the base's supports. And let's not forget the glittering skyscraper-tall studded stiletto heels...pure Manhattan elegance!
